The 5 W’s

Geeks4Peace, Inc. was founded in October of 2009 in Annapolis, MD, with the purpose of providing quality, affordable technology support to non-profit and charitable organizations, while providing opportunities for Geeks (and aspiring Geeks) to improve their skills and grow their influence in the community.

Some Business Jargon

At the moment, primary volunteer and business activities include computer hardware and software support (including troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, preventative maintenance, upgrade implementation, etc); website development (including configuration, design, enhancements, maintenance, etc); and information technology (IT) infrastructure evaluation (including gathering and analyzing requirements, development of customized IT plans, implementation of identified plans, and preventative maintenance planning) for non-profits, charities, religious organizations, and educational institutions.

Supplemental activities include training and classes, geared at providing affordable technology education for the community. These classes will include topics with the intention of providing practical, real world skills sets that can be immediately used for the betterment of one’s self and one’s surroundings. Examples of topics include: technology repair and maintenance, software training, practical web-technology related skills, among other’s to be determined by the needs of the community.

Additionally, obsolete computers and related components will be collected from the community, to be refurbished and redistributed amongst those in need through partnerships with local charities. Community members will have an additional incentive of receiving a tax deduction from donations of technology.  Computers/components that are unable to be refurbished will be recycled or used in a manner to further social progress, such as providing practice opportunities in educational classes or integration into works of art.

As Geeks4Peace, Inc. continues to grow, additional operating activities will be assimilated (resistance is futile!) based on recruiting members with a passion to share their unique abilities with those in need.
